In the past, laser and radio links have been "one size fits all", so for short distances the price has been prohibitive. New units available now are totally scalable to the distances involved, i.e. you only pay for the distance you want covered and the speed of the link. The units are available to cover from 100 m (or less) up to 5000 m and at data rates from 50 M/s up to 1 G/s.
The units offer point-to-point optical and radio wireless transmission solutions that provide outstanding performance and reliability. They are an excellent choice for making connections across rivers and other natural or artificial obstacles where cables are not available. There is no need to install cables between buildings, no rental cost and no licensing requirement. Free Space Networks are ideal for urban areas or city centres where the use of leased lines is expensive - they are also suitable for factories or industrial environments where high noise levels can interfere with transmitted data. Some of the systems on offer can even work where "line of sight" is NOT available.
